YOUR PELVIC BOWL

Have you given much thought to your pelvic bowl? The part of you that connects you to all other women. It holds up the uterus, bladder, and rectum and supports the most essential part of a women’s potential. It makes sense to care for this space where our ideas and intuition originate. Think of it like a basket, or a hammock that sways as you move and supports all the precious organs inside it. Pelvic floor dysfunctions are much more common than you realize. It’s not talked about but it needs to be.

Signs to tend to your pelvic bowl:
• you pee when you laugh, sneeze, cough
• you pee when you move, dance, jump or run
• it hurts to pee
• it hurts to have sex
• recurrent urinary tract infections
• urgent need to urinate
• pelvic pain or a heaviness in your vagina

These signs are NOT normal. If you are experiencing any of the above, it is important to seek out a pelvic floor physiotherapist. A pelvic floor physiotherapist is a highly trained, compassionate professional who has undergone additional training to assess and treat pelvic floor dysfunction. This is not about just doing Kegels.

“During a good pelvic floor therapy session, you will learn how to tone and lengthen the space between the base of the tailbone and the pubic bone. Ideally, you take away tips that you can practice all the time. Literally every moment you walk, stand, or sit. Pelvic floor therapy is about changing a lifetime of habits. Because the pieces of the body are all connected, you'll often see benefits in other areas that feel stiff or hurt.” (Holistic Squid)
