Looking for that useful item that all moms love? We’ve got the list for you! All the baby stuff out there can be overwhelming at times but we know to keep it simple. Babies don’t need whole lot in those first few months; just a ton of love and cuddles. We’ve picked our favs and we know you will love them too!

Lily Padz – these are a huge hit with us! You can skip the disposable breast pads and just get these for your entire breastfeeding journey. The Lily Padz are made of 100% silicone and latex free. They are comfortable, gentle and easy to apply. We find them wonderful for sore, cracked nipples as they allow for your nipples to bathe in your breastmilk to promote healing. Most local boutique maternity stores will sell these. Check their website for details. Remember, nipple soreness is due to an incorrect latch so be sure to seek out help should you experience this.

Nursing Nightwear – if you plan to breastfeed, you will be nursing around 10-12 times per day which will help establish a good milk supply in the first 4-6 weeks. Babies can wake every few hours during the night and even more often while going through a growth spurt. Having a nice, comfortable nursing gown can make you feel good and ease nighttime breastfeeding.

A Good Book – you may feel like you are stuck to the couch and nursing baby constantly in the early days and for good reason. Your baby needs to nurse frequently to accommodate the major growth spurts that happen in the first few months. Get a good book (or two) and enjoy this quiet time while you can…..the months really do fly by and soon enough baby will be on the move and there will be little time to sit and relax.

Zoli Buzz B Nail Trimmer – this handy little nail file is a parents dream! Don’t worry about cutting baby’s skin as these gentle file pads turn in a circular motion to help slough off those sharp little edges. It’s battery operated, allows you to control the speed and comes with different coloured pads to grow with baby from 0-12+ months. Check it out here.

Epsom Salts for bathing – your perineum may be sore and tender during the first days after the birth. Sitz baths are wonderful and can help speed up healing. You can add half a cup of epsom salts to a few inches of warm bath water for a soothing effect. These salts are also great for muscle pain, restless legs and hemmorrhoids. If you’ve had a cesarean then you will need to check with your doctor first to get the go-ahead.

Pre-made Frozen Meals – in the last couple months of pregnancy you should start building your postpartum plan (we will be discussing this step-by-step in our next blog). It is also an important time to prep some ready made meals for the first few weeks after bringing your new baby home. Get your favourite recipes out and start cooking! You will be so thankful you did. If you don’t enjoy cooking or just simply don’t have the time, there are many websites that offer meal train services so you can get your friends and family to sign up and bring a dish to you.

Diaper Caddy – most parents will typically set up a changing station in the baby’s nursery but a lot of your time will be spent in your bed or in the main living area where you have access to Netflix and the kitchen. A portable diaper caddy is perfect to accommodate all of the daily diaper changes around the house. You can store diapers, wipes, bum balms, nail files, vitamin D drops and many more things in your caddy for easy access at all times.

Baby Wrap – baby wearing is a life saver for those mama’s who can’t sit still. In the fourth trimester baby needs to be close to you and they will sleep often. A good carrier will allow your baby cuddle into your chest while letting you be hands-free. This can be especially helpful when you have older children to care for. We love a good cushy wrap or ring sling for those newborn squishes!
